Clarion.Engineer Appointed to Support Renewable Energy Acquisitions in Serbia
Technical due diligence mandate covers operating wind and solar assets, ESG, risk management and CBAM considerations
Clarion.Engineer has been contracted by an international M&A advisory firm representing a Germany-based industrial energy offtaker pursuing renewable energy acquisition opportunities across Southeast Europe. The mandate will initially focus on Serbia’s renewable energy market.
Clarion.Engineer will provide technical due diligence for existing wind and solar projects offered for sale. Its work will help the client assess each asset’s condition, performance, remaining useful life, technical risks and suitability for acquisition.
The scope includes:
- Review of project design, construction and operational documentation
- Assessment of wind or solar resource data and historical energy production
- Evaluation of equipment condition, performance, degradation and availability
- Review of grid connection, curtailment and balance-of-plant infrastructure
- Assessment of operations and maintenance practices, warranties and major maintenance requirements
- Review of capital expenditure, operating expenditure and decommissioning assumptions
- Analysis of environmental, social and governance practices
- Evaluation of project-level risk management frameworks and mitigation measures
- Identification of material technical risks and potential transaction implications
- Analysis of relevant Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism requirements and their implications for the industrial group’s energy procurement and decarbonization strategy
Clarion.Engineer is working as part of an international multidisciplinary M&A team. Other members of the advisory group are responsible for commercial, legal and lenders’ due diligence, enabling technical findings to be considered alongside the wider transaction, financing and contractual workstreams.
Clarion.Engineer’s assessment will support informed investment decisions by identifying technical risks, estimating their potential operational and financial impact, and recommending appropriate mitigation measures. The work will also examine whether the target assets’ ESG governance, risk controls and supporting information are aligned with the requirements of an international industrial buyer.
Serbia is becoming an increasingly important renewable energy market in Southeast Europe, supported by strong wind and solar resources, industrial demand for lower-carbon electricity and continued development of the region’s energy infrastructure. Through this mandate, Clarion.Engineer will contribute local and regional technical expertise to the client’s renewable energy acquisition strategy.
